St Peter’s Festival 800+ – Postponed –

Following the directive issued by The Church of England, all activities and events are postponed indefinitely. We are sorry but the situation offers no other course of action.

This year, St. Peter’s in Church Langton celebrates its 800th anniversary.

Throughout 2020 we are planning a whole series of events involving the community, and we would very much like you to join us for any which take your interest.

History
It is recorded that before 1162, the church of Langton with two chapels, Tur and Thorpe Langton, was granted to Leicester Abbey by William Newmarch and Roger de Bordeni, perhaps with the consent of the Earl of    Leicester, lord of the manor.  There may well have been an earlier building on the site as there is evidence of Norman architecture in the present building, but we can be sure that by 2020, there will have been a Christian presence in Church Langton for at least 800 years.

So, to celebrate 800 plus years of association between church and community, there will be a series of special activities and events throughout 2020. We are calling this series ‘Festival 800+

Here are the events for Spring….

Discovery walk – August

We were delighted to explore the churchyard with a Discovery Walk – All manner of wildlife birds, insects, fungi and plants were found on a lovely summer’s afternoon. Everyone really enjoyed this activity and we plan to host more at different times of the year to experience the different seasons. The photos tell the story very well – We can’t wait to do this again!

Heritage Talks – July 2019

Heritage Open Days and Festival of Archaeology

We were delighted to launch our Visitors Guide and host two events at St Peter’s on 10th July.

We had tours of the church and a talk with demonstration of how the roofing work was undertaken given by our conservation architect Bryan Martin and contractor Shaun Ward of Prestige Metal Roofing. The 60 visitors we had throughout the day, were very pleased with the Visitor’s Guide and tour and were especially impressed with Bryan and Shaun and how skilled Shaun is at hand working the lead.
