Covid-19 – Update

Wednesday 15th July 2020

Recent Government guidelines regarding opening of Churches for private prayer and also for regular worship, are subject to severe safeguarding directives. The Church of England have issued what is needed to be done in order to protect those visiting our churches especially the vulnerable and over 70s.

The Bishop of Leicester, Rt Revd Martyn Snow has also issued a letter to all parishes in the Leicester Diocese stating that the decision to open individual churches rest with the Incumbent (Clergy) or Area Dean where there is no Clergy in post.

Baptisms, weddings and funerals

Following a risk assessment for St Peter’s, undertaken by Area Dean, Rev Alison Booker and Lay Incumbent, Maxine Johnson on 14th July, 2020, the church will now open for baptisms, weddings and funerals, with numbers attending restricted as per Government Guidelines and guests invited by parties concerned. Members of the public who arrive without invitation, will not be admitted,

Regular worship and Holy Communion services

Very few churches in the Leicester Diocese have decided to open for the time being; most are considering not opening before September. St Peter’s Church Langton PCC, (Parochial Church Council) has taken the decision not to open before September for regular Worship Services . It is also possible that we will not be returning to weekly worship for sometime after that. The situation will be reviewed by the PCC, following any directives from the Government and the Diocese and any change to this position will be be announced here.

St Peter’s is holding regular worship via Zoom and you can contact us via email, if you would like to be part of these services.

Keep us, good Lord,
under the shadow of your mercy
in this time of uncertainty and distress.
Sustain and support the anxious and fearful,
and lift up all who are brought low;
that we may rejoice in your comfort
knowing that nothing can separate us from your love
in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Amen.

Home prayers on Sundays…

Following the suspension of all worship in churches throughout the UK, prayers will be said at 10.30am on Sunday mornings by our Lay Reader, Maxine Johnson.
This is the time services are usually held at St. Peter’s on Sunday mornings.

You can join in with the prayers from home at the same time.
Maxine will ring the minute bell just before, to remind everyone the prayers will commence.

Dowload the prayer service sheet here:

The prayers can also be said together as a family or by yourself at any time of the day.
